The "Vermentino & Pił" Competition
The Vermentino Winery, in order to spread awareness of grape growing in Sardinia as an expression of identity and culture, has organised a competition addressing junior high schools and high schools in Sardinia. The first edition of the competition was won by the first grade of the Comprehensive School of Loiri, Porto San Paolo, and by the State Art School "F. Figari" of Sassari: both were awarded a cultural trip to Verona. The second edition, for school-year 2006-2007 includes collaboration with the General Directorate of the Regional School Office and Italian Railway Company, Trenitalia, which chose to take part in this project of high educational import.
Regulation
1- PARTICIPATION REQUIREMENTS
The competition is addressed to Sardinian Schools and is divided into two categories:
- Junior High Schools
- High Schools
Only one grade per School may participate.
2- GUIDELINES FOR WORKS SUBMITTED
The class will be free to write about and describe the theme in any manner, with reference to the environment, history, tradition and culture. Only one essay/artwork item may be submitted, on paper measuring 210x297 mm. The essay must be submitted together with a registration sheet, indicating: school, grade, address, telephone number, fax, e-mail, class, section, teacher coordinating the project, participating pupils.
3- SUBMISSION OF WORKS
Works must be sent in a sealed envelope to: Secretariat of the Vermentino&Pił Competition,
Via Guido Cavalcanti 28, 09128 Cagliari,
no later than Friday 30 March 2007.
4- JURY
The jury, composed of representatives of the winemaking industry, schools, transport and communications, will judge the works submitted and will nominate , according to its incontestable judgement, a winner for each category.
5- RESULT
Results of the competition will be published on the internet,
on websites www.vermentinomonti.it and www.trenitalia.com.
The winning school will also receive written notice.
6- PRIZES
Winner.
The two winning classes, one for each category, will be assigned a 3-day trip (each for the whole class plus two accompanying teachers) to an Italian region with significant winemaking traditions.
Second and Third place.
The runners up, one for each category, will be assigned a railway trip on Trenitalia lines, for a visit to the Winery.
7- CERTIFICATES
All classes taking part in the competition will receive a certificate of participation.
The names of the winning and participant classes will be published on websites www.vermentinomonti.it and www.trenitalia.com, and in regional newspapers.
8- AWARD CEREMONY
The prizes will be awarded at the Monti Winery on Sunday 29 May 2007.
9- EXHIBITION
All works submitted will be placed on show during the XV Vermentino Festival, at Monti, on 4/5 August 2007 and at the Trenitalia Museum at Cagliari Railway Station on 24/28 September 2007 (visits must be booked).
10- OWNERSHIP OF WORKS SUBMITTED
Works submitted for the Competition will remain at the complete disposal of the Vermentino Winery and will not be returned. Participants - by accepting these regulations unconditionally - grant exclusive publication rights without placing any claims.
